Manchester United have reportedly struck a £21.5million transfer deal
for Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, with the midfielder expected to
sign a contract this weekend.
Louis van Gaal is believed to have made Gundogan one of his key
targets as he continues to rebuild United’s squad, with the German
international slowly returning to top form after a long injury lay-off.
And according to German outlet
Der Westen, United have now finalised a move for the 24-year-old after agreeing a £21.5million fee with Dortmund.
Sky Sports News Germany also report that Gundogan will put pen to
paper on deal this weekend, with his exit likely to spark a summer of
change at the Signal Iduna Park in the wake of Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
While there is an element of risk about the deal given the
midfielder’s injury-ridden past, if he can recapture his 2012/13 form he
could prove to be one of van Gaal’s smartest signings.
