Scores feared dead as explosions rock Biu

(UPDATED) Scores feared dead as explosions rock Biu

There were bomb explosions in Biu, the biggest town in the southern part of Borno State on Tuesday, a resident of the town, Ibrahim Isah, has said.
Though details of the explosions remained sketchy as the extent of damage and human casualties could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
Isah said the incident occurred at about noon.
He insisted that it was massive and might have led to huge human casualties.
A member of youth vigilance group, who spoke on condition of anonymity on telephone to our correspondent, said the incident happened at Yamarkumi along the Maiduguri Road.
“There were three explosions in Yamarkumi here in Biu town. Many people have been affected; the casualty figure from what we are seeing now have surpassed that of the market suicide bombing that occurred on Thursday. Ambulances are rushing in and out for now. We will give details later,” he said.
Biu township, which is about 185km from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, has in recent times witnessed attempts by insurgents to take over the town.
Last week, two teenage girls sneaked into the town’s central market, where they detonated a bomb that killed eight persons.
