Chelsea fans ‘most racist in the Premier League’ according to Home Office statistics

Chelsea have the most racist supporters in the Premier League, according to official Home Office stats.
In a week when the club’s name has been dragged through the mud following allegations fans racially abused a black Metro passenger while travelling to the Champions League clash with PSG, these statistics are the last thing they need.
Figures from the last 13 seasons, when such records were first compiled, show that Chelsea followers have been arrested on 27 occasions for either racist or indecent chanting, which is the most from any club to have played in the top flight during each of those campaigns.
For the total number of offences committed, Stoke City lead the way with 28, although this includes their time in the Championship, while Leeds United, Sunderland and West Ham have had 24 supporters detained.

Tottenham also rank highly on the list of shame with 18 football crimes committed, according to the International Business Times.
It is the Hammers, though, who possess the unwanted record for the most fans arrested during a single season, with 24 in 2012/13.
On the plus side, however, the number of arrests for racist chanting has been on the decline since 2010/11, when the offence reached a three-year high of 43.
